Hiroshige II's series 'Eight Views of Famous Places in Edo (Edo meisho hakkei)' (ca. 1851-53)


Introduction

This page attempts to catalog all known prints in Hiroshige II's series 'Edo meisho hakkei (江戸 名所 八景 - Eight Views of Famous Places in Edo)'.

The series title is in the rectangular cartouche in the top right corner; the title of each individual print is in the field of the print at the top, to the left of the title cartouche.

The series dates from the very start of Hiroshige II's career, when he was in his mid-twenties. At this point, he was using the name 'Shigenobu', the given to him by his master Hiroshige I; the prints in this series are signed 'Shigenobu'.
