Hiroshige II's series 'Storehouse of Loyal Retainers (Chūshingura)' (1855)



Introduction


This page attempts to catalog all known prints in
Hiroshige II's
series 'Chūshingura (忠臣蔵　 -
The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers)'.




The title of each individual print is at the bottom cartouche of the red cartouche
in the top right corner; the series title is at the top.




The series dates from the start of Hiroshige II's career, when he
was about twenty-nine years old. At this point, he was still
using the name
'Shigenobu', the
gō
given to him by his master
Hiroshige I;
the prints in this series are signed 'Shigenobu'.





Title Kanji


The character numbers, which identify the characters in the titles, are given
from:


    Andrew N. Nelson, "The Modern Reader's Japanese-English Character Dictionary",
	Charles E. Tuttle, Rutland, 1974



which is a standard Japanese dictionary. Note that Nelson omits many archaic
readings, which often used in these names.
